Here are your most recent, most notable broken bones and torn ligaments in the sports world over the past few weeks…
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan sprained his left shoulder in the last minutes of the NFC championship loss to the San Francisco 49ers and won’t be able to play in Sunday’s Pro Bowl. Ryan will need 3-4 weeks to recover from the injury, no surgery is required.
New England Patriots tight-end Rob Gronkowski unfortunately re-broke his arm. He incurred the new injury when he dove to the ground for a pass in the Patriots AFC Divisional Playoff game. It has been stated that Gronkowski’s original break was fully healed and intact when surgery was performed on his new injury.
Atlanta Hawks guard Lou Williams has been ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing his right ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in a game. Williams underwent a scan which confirmed the injury to his knee. He will need surgery and his recovery timetable will not be revealed until after surgery.
Pittsburgh Pirates left-handed pitcher Francisco Liriano broke his right arm in December. The injury to his humerus, which has slowed Liriano’s contract negotiations with the Pirates, may mean he will not be ready to pitch until later in the season. Only time will tell.
